Celtic Daily Prayer - Inspirational prayers and readings from the Northumbria Community

Lin and I discovered this book only fairly recently and it has since become a real treasure and resource for us.  Full of readings and prayers it is a book that can be dipped into but better used on a daily basis.  There is the Daily Office - a regular cycle of daily prayers which constitute the essential rhythm of life.  These draw on the rich traditions of monastic communities.

Ideal for use as individuals or for families, the prayers are supplemented with meditations or readings.  For ourselves we've tended to use the evening compline and/or a daily reading.

As you use this book you get to sense the depth of faith that has gone into its forming.  We have been truly enriched through its pages and it has become a well of life that we draw upon.

Nooma - Rob Bell

Nooma DVDs are a series of short (10 - 15 minute) films about getting a Christian perspective on issues that we care about.

They are creative and innovative, with Rob Bell giving insightful spiritual direction in a format for today's generation.

A Generous Orthodoxy - Brian McLaren

Orthodoxy is about right belief or belief in what is right.  The church has been divided by issues of right belief for centuries.  In light of this a book on exploring a 'generous' orthodoxy, which seeks to bring to the centre a way of life that draws us closer to Christ and to each other, is to be welcomed.

This is a sweeping exploration of belief, taking us across the landscape of faith.  It is at times provocative and challenging yet always seeking the best in each tradition.  This is a book to encourage dialogue, gain different perspectives and understanding, and hopefully help us to appreciate what a wonderful, varied and rich heritage we have.
